To celebrate International Women’s Day, Business Gateway Edinburgh hosted an event at City Chambers.

Marie Owen, CEO and owner of LS Productions, the UK’s largest film production company, shared her inspiring story by launching the business after a career as a flight attendant.

The company now has 28 employees in offices in Leith, which continues to be its headquarters and around the world.

Marie said: “I was absolutely delighted to have been invited to speak at Business Gateway Edinburgh’s International Women’s Day event and I hope my story and my learnings will encourage others to believe that with a little hard work, common sense and determination anything is possible!

There was a panel discussion with three business owners, Stephanie Foulds, Founder of The Eco Larder, Nina Falk Founder of Kalopsia Collective and Suzie Millar Founder of Scottish Bee Company, all talking about building a sustainable business and the circular economy.

Susan Harkins, Head of Business Gateway Edinburgh, said: “Today was a fantastic celebration of women coming together to support each other in business and hear from inspiring women who all have an incredible impact on the economy.

“It was wonderful to hear our keynote speaker Marie Owen, founder of LS Productions and our three panelists, Nina, Stephanie and Suzie, about their incredible business trip and the invaluable learnings along the way.”

Cllr Kate Campbell, Housing and Economy Manager, attended the event. She said: “I truly believe that one of the most important things we can do as women to support each other is to listen and share our experiences.

“Today we heard from inspiring and successful women in business and social enterprise in the capital.

“We must continue to celebrate ambition in women and demonstrate the positive change that ambitious women can make – and events like today do just that.”

At last year’s inaugural event, Premier Nicola Sturgeon launched the Women in Business Growth Program, which 36 entrepreneurs from all industries have now completed. Applications are now open for the next course designed to help women grow their business and develop skills such as promoting an investment and leadership strategy which begins August 22, 2020.
