Investigation underway after skeletal remains of man found in Chambers County, sheriff says
CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – An investigation is underway after the discovery of possible human remains in an area of southern Anahuac, according to Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.
The discovery was made after deputies were sent to the area on a referral call regarding the discovery of human remains.
Investigators believe the remains may be human due to traumatic screws located in a bone of a lower limb.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division assisted crime scene technicians in investigating the site where the remains were located in an effort to find additional remains or possible evidence.
On Saturday, the sheriff sent members of the Texas Search and Rescue K9 team to help search in and around the area where skeletal human remains were discovered. He said they were able to excavate and recover what appears to be the complete skeletal remains of an adult male that would have been 6′0″ or taller.
The skeletal remains will be transported and delivered to the Forensic Anthropology Laboratory at the University of North Texas Human Identification Center at Denton.
Hawthorne asked that if anyone knows of anyone who is missing, who may have had a lower extremity medical procedure in the past few years, to call the Chambers County Criminal Investigation Division at 409 -267-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 844-860-8477.
